Zain to Cover 85% of Ghana in 1 year
Zain Telecommunications, a member of the global telecommunication giant, Zain Group (parent company to Celtel Nigeria), plan to provide coverage in most communities in Ghana within one year of operation.
The company plans on offering extended coverage north to south through the major highways, according to Chris Gabriel,CEO,Zain Africa.
The aggressive penetration of high population locations will be complemented by an extensive rural coverage during the period, according to company’s spokesperson.
The plan is consistent with the Zain and its subsidiary, Celtel business model of providing effective coverage within the countries they operate in. nearby Nigeria, Celtel Nigeria, has spread to many communities including towns and villages since it took over Vmobile in 2006. The company is today the second largest telecom operator in the country.
Zain began its service in Kuwait in 2003 and has since spread to 22 countries in 5 years, servicing more than 45 million customers. The company sees itself growing to be one of the global top 10 mobile companies by 2011, projected to service more than 110 million customers.
Gabriel said the planned coverage will require the investment of several hundred million dollars. Gabriel vows to give the customers a consistent (mobile) experience.â€
Gabriel remarked that they plan on competing with other mobile companies on a rational basis by offering packages that fit different spending habits.†The mobile packages have yet to be released.
