The Telecommunication Regulatory Authority of UAE is deeming a decision that will allow the country’s two licenced cellcos Etislat and Du to slash international call charges in lieu of charging customers for services that are currently being provided by them for free. According to TRA official, this decision will not be taken until or unless a thorough study is done on its socio-economic impact. The study will consider the effect on customers as well as on the telcos. This decision is not likely to be seen in the near future. “Anything that will increase the quality of service and decrease the amount of charges to be paid by the customers for the services provided by licenced telecom operators is fully supported by TRA, as long as such actions do not breach the rules and regulations of the regulator,” added TRA official.
