Sprint goes green with ‘Green Goals’ (USA)

Sprint Nextel is planning to expand its environmental programs and is looking forward to reduce its total greenhouse gas emissions 15% by 2017. To achieve this goal, the company will be reducing overall energy demands as well as increasing the use of renewable energy. Moreover the company has vowed to have at least 10% of its energy come from renewable sources by 2017.

According to Sprint, efforts are already under way to achieve this goal, as a Kansas corporate campus already gets 75% of its energy from a wind farm. Sprint CEO Dan Hesse said, “These targets help to demonstrate Sprint’s environmental leadership by clearly articulating what Sprint is doing to help meet today’s environmental challenges”. Ralph Reid, Sprint’s VP of Corporate Responsibility, said, “Our company is much more than the products and services it sells”. “The effect a company has on the environment, the people, and the communities it serves reflects its dedication to being not only a great business but to being a great corporate citizen,” Ralph added. Apart from green house gas emission goals, Sprint is intending to increase  its cell-phone recycling rate to 90%. Through its Sprint Project Connect and Sprint Buyback programs, it has a 16% reuse and recycle rate.
