NTT DoCoMo announces the formation of a jont venture with Avex Broadcasting & Communications, a Japanese music and movie entertainment company, to produce and have an on-demand distribution of video content packaged for the mobile phone environment.
This will enable the users to dowload or stream the video content, which has nearly 47 channels like movies, news etc via NTT DoCoMo’s “mopera” mobile Internet service.
The service is scheduled to operate by March 2009 with capital of JPY3.5 billion and capital reserves of JPY3.5 billion, 30% from DOCOMO and 70% from Avex Entertainment (AEI).
The company will develop content specially for small screen phones giving special consideration to scripting, editing, photography, etc tailored for the mobile phone environment.
Docomo will be providing with the IT infrastructure, mobile technologies and experience with video content for mobile users. AEI will be doing the job for which it is known, content creation, artist management and services centered on intellectual property.
