UTStarcom grabs BSNL contract worth Rs.300 crore (India)
UTStarcom has acquired a a Rs 300-crore contract from Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd to launch the broadband network that will support 1.1 million subscribers. During the first phase UTStarcom has alrady deployed a network that supports 1.3 million broadband subscribers. BSNL has launched its second phase of a countrywde network in December 2007. It is anticipated that with this network expansion BSNL accelerate its existing broadband connections on subscriber lines by more than 30 times the current speed.
Vice-President and Managing Director of UTStarcom’s South Asia, Vijay Yadav, said, We worked closely with BSNL to successfully complete Phase I of this multi-play broadband network and we are pleased that the company has chosen to extend its relationship with us for Phase II of the deployment.”
