Zain Kenya adds 1.5 Mn subscribers following Vuka Tariff launch

Zain Kenya reported that it has signed up 1.5 million new subscribers after the launch of ‘Vuka tariff’ campaign. Zain Managing Director Rene Meza, said that according to a research commissioned in October, 51 percent of all new mobile subscribers were joining their network which was re-branded in August.
According to the study, customers are selecting Zain owing to our quality network and affordable on-net and cross-network calling rates,” he swanked. He said although its customer base had grown to about three million, it was hard to predict what market share the operator would have in the near future as competition is still very stiff. We still have some more propositions that we intend to roll out in addition to the much anticipated revolutionary mobile banking services,” he added. This offer is targeted at youth and the the company wanted to fulfil a specific need of a specific niche market. Mr Meza further said that the offer would not result in congestion of the network arguing that they have wide coverage and were constantly upgrading their infrastructure.
