China Telecom enters Chinese mobile market as a CDMA operator

China Telecom, China based fixed-line telco has stepped into the country’s mobile market with the phone number starting with the digits 189. The new digits will operate on China Telecom’s CDMA network, which curently operating on 2G technology but will soon be updated to 3G. In order to compete with tCompared to its market rivals in China, the 189 number is fit with a faster website surfing speed. In addition, mobile phone users can attach their fixed line phones at home with a 189 mobile phone. No fee will be charged for calls between the attached fixed line and mobile phone.
He Zhiqiang, Marketing Manager of China Telecom said “China Telecom has entered the mobile phone market. And this breaks the dominance of only one operator. It will offer more choice and benefits to consumers.”
