China Telecom schedules CDMA 2000 launch by late February’09 (China)
China Telecom, the telco which recently won the 3G licence in China, has decided to rollout its CDMA 2000 services by late February 2009 in order to compete head on with China Mobile and China Unicom.
The telco will initially launch its services in major cities like Shanghai and in Beijing, it is scheduled to finish upgrading its CDMA networks to WCDMA before February 28, 2009.. China Telecom also plans to switch its regular subscribers using 133- and 153-prefix mobile phone numbers to 189-prefix 3G services before the end of March, 2009. According to Zhang Jiping, general manager of China Telecom, the telco will take another three months to ready its network for 3G launch.
