Mobile Number Portability allows mobile users to retain their mobile numbers when changing from one mobile network operator to another will be implemented within this year, according to Telecom Regulatory Authority (TRC) officials. “We are to introduce MNP very soon where a consumer can shift networks without changing their seven numbers which come after the prefix and this will possibly be within this year,” a senior TRC official stated.
This news is confirmed by CEO and Joint Managing Director Bharti Airtel Ltd, Manoj Kohli. “The next step for the government and the TRC is to expedite MNP. We made a request to the government and the TRC for MNP and the response is positive. We feel that within this year it will done,” Kohli said. According to TRC official, the regulator has requested relevant data for the MNP process from all operators.†With this there is a ownership the customer possesses to his/her number,†he added.
