Gicell Wireless to instigate CDMA services in Feb’09 (Nigeria)
Gicell Wireless, Nigeria, plans to launch its mobile network with the lowest call tariffs in the country. According to CEO Malam Usman Abubakar Gumi, the upcoming CDMA2000 in the 450 MHz band will roll out in February, with a coverage over five states. Gicell gets its financial backing from World Bank and its aim is to expand its coverage across the nation at a fast pace. The company has been designated a universal access service provider, focussing its services to un-served and under-served areas in Nigeria.
Gicell gets financial grant of USD 5 million from the World Bank for the project, and local banks, corporate groups and individual investors are also partly funding the project.
