Globacom & Alcatel in a network expansion deal (Nigeria)
Globacom, wireless network operator of Nigeria, has inked a network expansion contract with French vendor Alcatel-lucent, targeting 45 million subscribers. The contract will involve the replacement of existing mobile switching centres (MSCs) with new generation networks, the expansion of coverage to a further 3,000 sites and also of its transmission network by 10,000 km.
Globacom’s Executive Director, Mike Jituboh, described it as ‘the most ambitious expansion project by any telecoms network in Nigeria.’ ‘The upgrading of existing cell sites and the provision of additional 3,000 new cell locations will boost network performances. The technological advancement will attract more subscribers to our network as we move towards strengthening and consolidating our leadership position on the continent,’ he added.
