The statistics issued by NCA reveal that the number of mobile subscription grew by 16.8% from December’08. MTN topped the chart with 6.6 million subscribers, holding 55.1% of the total subscriber base, followed by Tigo with a subscriber base of 2.8 million or 23% of the total. Onetouch secured third position with 1.7 million subscribers or 14.5% of the total base. Zain Ghana, which launched operations a month back, ended January’09 with 463,824, leaving Kasapa behind with 386,732 subscribers. NCA statistics further unveil that the mobile penetration in Ghana reached 98% in January’09.
