Brazil ends February with mobile penetration of 79.94%
www.WirelessFederation.com/news: Brazil, in the month of February, has added 415,900 new mobile phone lines, a rise of 0.2% since January’09, taking the total number of active lines to 152.3 million. The net addition in terms of subscribers fell by 67% in February 2009, compared to February 2008.
Of the total number of lines, the prepaid segment held 124.3 million lines whereas 28 million were postpaid.
Vivo tops the chart with 45.5 million lines (29.8%), followed by Claro with 39.9 million (25.8%). TIM came third with 35.7 million (23.4%) and lastly followed by Oi and Brasil Telecom jointly with 31.5 million (19%).
Anatel reported a mobile penetration of 79.94% in the country.
