MTN brings first Androind handset to South Africa

www.WirelessFederation.com/news: MTN will bring a new flagship mobile handset into the South African mobile market, through an exclusive partnership with local HTC distributor Leaf International Communications (Pty) Ltd. The phone will be released by the end of May 2009.  It is the first mobile handset that uses uses the open source Android operating system, developed by Google.

The phone adorns a 3.2-inch (8.1 cm) display, touch-sensitive screen navigation and a sliding five-row QWERTY keyboard. It also includes a GPS receiver and a microSDTM card with 16GB of memory.

The handset is accesible from MTN on the AnyTime 350 package for R529 per month, this comprises R350 worth of airtime and 100MB worth of data monthly.
