MTS gets consent to acquire Comstar (Russia)

www.WirelessFederation.com/news: Mobile TeleSystems (MTS), leading mobile operator of Russia has received green signal from Russia’s antimonopoly authority to buy out Moscow-based fixed line operator Comstar United TeleSystems. As per the deal, the telecom operations of AFK Sistema will be merged and allow MTS to capitalise on demand for broadband in regional cities. MTS got permission to purchase all of Comstar’s shares but Chief Executive Mikhail Shamolin has said that the cellco may decide against buying 100% of the company.
