BSNL is ready to offer stake to foriegn investor (India)
www.WirelessFederation.com/news: BSNL, the state owned telco is ready to offer its stake to a foriegn firm, if the proposed IPO does not work out for the operator, Chairman of BSNL, Kuldeep Goyal reportedly said.
It was in 2008, the BSNL has approved the disinvestment of its 10% stake through an IPO, which was likely to raise upto %10 billion, but after a opposition from employee unions it was forced to shelve the plan.
“Foreign partners definitely bring in some expertise that will help the company improve its performance,” says BSNL Chairman Kuldeep Goyal.
Goyal also said they would discuss the stake sale plan with the employee unions and was yet to get a government go-ahead for it.
“We have to talk to our employees about whether they would prefer a foreign partner or an IPO,” he said. “We also have to see what the government wants.”
