UNE EPM soft-launches Orbitel MVNO in Spain

www.WirelessFederation.com/news: Colombian operator UNE EPM Telecomunicaciones has pre-launched mobile services on the Spanish market, under the Orbitel brand name it no longer uses in Colombia. The operator will provide MVNO services in Spain leveraging Vodafone’s network. The service targets the Latin American community living in Spain, who can now make calls to their native countries at discounted tariffs. According to Juan Guillermo Velez Ospina, VP of international business at UNE EPM, nearly 94 percent of the 2 million Latino immigrants living in Spain own a mobile phone, but only 6 percent use it to make international calls to their countries of origin, mainly due to the high service costs. This soft-launch phase of the UNE – Orbitel MVNO in Spain will be extended until the end of the European vacation period. The official presentation of the service and special rate plans is scheduled for September.
