O2 UK inks deal with Twitter to offer free text alerts to subscribers

www.WirelessFederation.com/news: O2 UK has joined hands with Twitter to offer free Twitter alerts to its subscribers. From 1 August, O2 subscribers will be able to switch on text notifications within Twitter and receive replies and direct messages free of charge. Subscribers can also receive and send updates on Twitter as part of their normal text message bundle or for the cost of a standard text message.
O2 will restrict it subscribers by a fair use policy for Twitter texts to a maximum of 600 messages per month. O2′s head of content Antony Douglas said the operator believed that mobile phones would soon become the most popular way of accessing social networking sites.
