www.WirelessFederation.com/news: According to a study, USD 187.75 is the materials and manufacturing cost bill of Motorola’s Droid smartphone. The electronic component is worth USD 179.11 and the manufacturing cost is USD 8.64. The amount is after software and royalties cost is not taken into consideration.

At USD 35, the microSD card is Droid’s most expensive single component. At USD 17.75, a 3.7-inch TFT LCD display is the most expensive component integrated within the enclosure of the Droid. Besides, the handset also features USD 17.50 touchscreen interface, USD 14.25 5-megapixel CMOS sensor, USD 14.04 baseband processor/radio frequency chip and USD 6.50 Bluetooth/WLAN/FM transmitter and receiver.

Over the past three years, the global cell-phone sale of Motorola is going down with 5.4 percent of worldwide unit shipments in the second quarter of 2009, down from 22.5 percent in Q2 2006. Even the ranking of the company has gone down to fifth position, one place down from fifth.
