Bharti Airtel eyes African telecom PSUs
www.WirelessFederation.com/news: After acquiring a majority stake in the Bangladeshi mobile operator Warid Telecom, Bharti Airtel has expressed its desire to acquire government-owned telcos in developing countries like Africa which are up for divestment.
According to Bharti Enterprises managing director Rajan Bharti Mittal, if the government in any other developing country like Africa, Bangladesh etc is looking for disinvestment in PSU telcos then it can be looked at but only in mobile services and not in fixed lines.
However, the company denied restoring any talk with South African telco MTN regarding the failed deal between the two. A pact was signed by Bharti last week with Bangladesh’s fourth largest telco Warid Telecom from the Dhabi Group for $300 million.
