Hyper- competition badly hits Bharti Airtel (India)
www.WirelessFederation.com/news: India’s largest telco Bharti Airtel has been badly hit by the hyper- competition in the country’s telecom market with its revenue per minute (RPM) plunging 7.2% in the December quarter compared with the previous quarter.
Despite the rise in the subscribers’ numbers from 110.5 million in September to 118.9 million in December, the mobile EBITDA fell 3% to 24.2 billion rupees for the period. Besides, the company also saw 0.8% quarter on quarter decline in MoU compared with a 3.1% quarter on quarter increase for Idea.
The ARPUs also came slightly below from 253 rupees per month to 230 rupees per month. According to Bharti CEO Manoj Kohli, in a hyper-competitive situation which the marker is witnessing now in the industry, the companies have to retain their revenue market share at 32% and have a very strong EBITDA margin at 40%, which portrays strong performance.
