Intelig & Intelsat sign multi-year capacity contract (Brazil)
www.WirelessFederation.com/news: Brazilian telecoms operator Intelig has concluded a multi-year capacity contract on Intelsat’s IS-14 satellite located at 315 degrees E. Intelig was acquired by Telecom Italia-controlled TIM Brasil in late-2009.
Integrated fixed and mobile operator will be enabled to use the IS-14 orbiter to expand its network coverage to cover its more than 41 million mobile subscribers through this deal. Intelsat’s satellites has been used by Intelig in the past to provide an advanced, all-digital nationwide network capable of delivering voice and data services to residential users, businesses and other carriers in areas well beyond its urban strongholds.
According to Leonardo Cifali, Director of Engineering and Operations for Intelig, the IS-14 satellite provides it with the coverage it need to support the progression and convergence of cellular services, helping it to meet the long-term needs of its growing customer base while the Intelsat system already has enabled it to offer broadband networks to its government customers, provide maximum network efficiency for its enterprise customers and it now look forward to expanding its wireless telephony services to the most remote areas of Brazil.
