T-Mobile Netherlands buys E-GSM frequency from KPN
KPN and T-Mobile Netherlands agreed that T-Mobile is to purchase a part of the GSM frequency of Telfort. As of 1 September T-Mobile will be able to use 5 MHz bandwidth in the 900 MHz frequency band. A spokesman of T-Mobile said that the new frequency will improves the coverage, both indoor and outdoor. It also provides the company with extra capacity. At the moment T-Mobile has 16.4 MHz in de 1800 MHz band. KPN will have no use of the frequency as it will close down the Telfort network in 2007. Ministry of Economics is to approve the transfer of the frequency. The purchase price is not revealed. T-Mobile is not interested in the UMTS frequency of Telfort.
