Smartphone maker Palm reported a 42 percent annual increase in the number of devices shipped in the fiscal second quarter to 1 December, to a total 617,000 units. Revenues however fell to USD 392.9 million from USD 444.6 million a year earlier, while net profit dipped to USD 12.8 million from USD 260 million due to higher costs and a tax benefit in the year-earlier period. For the third quarter, Palm forecast revenues of USD 400-410 million and earnings per share of USD 0.08-0.10.
