Alltel has spruced up the tried and true caller ID feature on its network with Tuesday’s release of a service called City ID. Alltel’s City ID will notify users of the location of incoming callers by displaying the city and state assigned to virtually any landline or mobile phone number in North America.

The City ID service, developed by Cequint, is initially available on the LG AX275 handset with a 7-day free trial. Handset support will be expanded soon, with each new device addition including a 15-day free trial for new users, and once the user’s trial period expires, the service will be available for US$1.99 per month. City ID will be pre-installed on handsets directly from Alltel, with no additional download required.
