Apple reported sales of 2.315 million iPhones in its fiscal first quarter to 29 December, up from 1.19 million in the three months to September. The quarter marked the launch of the mobile phone in Europe, after an earlier release last June in the US. The company reported computer sales of 2.319 million, up 44 percent from a year ago, while iPod sales grew 5 percent to 22.121 million. Revenues increased to USD 9.6 billion from USD 7.1 billion in the year-earlier period, and net profit rose to USD 1.58 billion from USD 1 billion. Sales outside its home market the US accounted for 45 percent of the quarter’s revenue. Apple generated cash flow of USD 2.7 billion in the quarter, giving it a total 18.4 billion in cash at the end of December. For the second quarter, it forecasts sales of about USD 6.8 billion and EPS of USD 0.94.
