BHUBANESWAR: In the face of growing competition from private players, the BSNL, Orissa Circle, has decided to make landline connections and mobile services more economical from October 1.

Landline customers paying Rs 180 per month will henceforth pay Rs 150 and those paying Rs 150 will now pay Rs 130. Monthly rental has been slashed by Rs 20 for customers paying Rs 120.

For new connections, registration fee has been decreased by 50 percent from Rs 500. Chief General Manager, Orissa circle, U N Mahallik said these steps would help in arresting the dwindling number of landline customers.

Talking to mediapersons here on Friday, Mahallik also announced that ‘Excel Anant’ sale value will come down to Rs 699 from Rs 949 for three months from October 20 to December 18. Value of talktime will be increased from Rs 99 to Rs 199.

SIM cost both for prepaid and postpaid will be Rs 100 from October 1. Also postpaid CellOne would be converted to Excel prepaid on payment of Rs 112 from October 1.

Further, 200 free SMS scheme will be offered to all new prepaid subscribers for first two months from October 1.

Mahallik said, BSNL would also start a ‘Bundling of handset scheme’ from October 9. This will be available with Nokia and Motorola sets and free SIM.

Besides, additional talktime of Rs 150 will be extended to customers for 24 months using recharge voucher of minimum value of Rs 200 per month.
