 AccessKenya posts rise in H1 results (Kenya)

AccessKenya has reported first-half pretax profit of KES 92 million on sales of KES 387 million. The recently listed company did not release comparative figures for the year-earlier period, but said that pretax profit in all of 2006 was just KES 70 million and annual sales were at KES 578 million. The company finished June with around 1,600 leased line customers, up from 1,250 at the end of 2006 and ahead of its target of 1,500 for mid-year. It now expects to beat its full-year target for 1,700 to 1,750 customers and approach around 1,900 at year-end. After its IPO, AccessKenya finished the first half with a cash position and bank facilities of almost KES 100 million. It reiterated its intention to pursue acquisitions in the IT services, telephony and residential broadband markets.
