 AT&T says Web Surfing, No Problem! (USA)

AT&T said that it had fixed the problem faced by Northeastern United States due to its mobile data services such as Web surfing which had stopped working. On this note, Apple said that the problem did not affect voice calls, text messages or mobile e-mail on Research In Motion Ltd BlackBerry devices. AT&T spokesman Mark Siegel said “We identified it as a routing issue in the way data is routed to and from wireless devices “.

   

 AT&T and Motorola bring MOTO Q Global with Windows Mobile 6.1 (USA)

Motorola and AT&T have together announced the launch of the MOTO Q Global with Windows Mobile 6.1. This device will be available exclusively to the AT&T subscribers.
This handset is designed with a bold pin-strip and metallic edging.

 Etisalat brings new application portal for it’s BlackBerry users (Saudi Arabia)

Etisalat brings to it’s BlackBerry users a brand new application portal, which will expand their productivity as they will have access to a wide variety of applications from Navigation to document management applications.

Etisalat stated “The initiative which is a first for BlackBerry users in the Middle East will enable them to literally carry their office with them through their BlackBerry service to enjoy a world beyond just e-mail”.

The portal, “bb.etisalat.ae”, can be accesed by the users through their BlackBerry browser to view and download applications with a fee, which cater to both individuals and business users.

There also a range of free applications for the users like the “Holy Quran” in Arabic, free RSS reader, Financial Times news reader and the BlackBerry stock ticker.

Abdullah Hashim, vice-president, enterprise solutions, etisalat, said: “While wireless access to e-mail and corporate information was the primary driver for the popularity of the BlackBerry device among corporate users, access to applications will transform the service into a must-have for people on the move. This is where etisalat is empowering its customers and extending the versatility of BlackBerry service.”

   

 HTC Android smaller than the iPhone 3G (USA)

For the One’s who expect a HTC Android phone, the Dream, to resemble to a BlackBerry, have a surprise in store for them as this phone will be smaller than an iPhone 3G.
According to an FCC document, this new HTC device measures at 115 x 55mm, compared to the iPhone 3G’s 115.2mm x 62.1mm.

   

 People Telecom announced to sign a three-year agreement with Vodafone Australia (Australia)

Australia based People Telecom has announced of it’s reselling of the mobile network services to from mobile carrier Vodafone.
People Telecom has signed a three-year agreement with Vodafone Australia for the supply of mobile voice and data services to become a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO).
“We have been successfully providing Blackberry services in collaboration with Vodafone for the past two years and we have seen significant customer demand for an expanded range of products delivered on the Vodafone network,” Stanton said.
The agreement will also allow People Telecom to broker its own wholesale agreements for Vodafone mobile services direct to ISPs and local “tier-three” carriers.
According to Vodafone Australia CMO John Casey the terms of the agreement will allow People Telecom to deliver more value to personal and business subscribers.

   

 Treo Pro to challenge BlackBerry (USA)

Treo smartphone introduced by Palm Inc which is based on Microsoft Corp software to battle with its rival BlackBerry. Vodafone Group Plc and O2 will be selling Treo Pro in Europe in September and Telstra in Australia said the company. Palm does not have an agreement in USA with a carrier to sell the phone. But the company said that the entreprise demand is growing for unlocked phones that can work on any network. However analyst says that Treo Pro’s price tag of $549 is high without the subsidies typically offered by carriers to lock in subscribers. Analyst further said that given the pricing and lack of carrier sponsorship in the U.S., we believe initial sales of the Treo Pro will be limited. Only 21 percent of Palm revenue came from international sales in its fiscal year 2008, analyst added.

Treo Pro is with Wi-FI that boosts Web Speeds in weak cell phone reception areas and also have GPS (Global Positioning System) that supports features such as direction.

 BlackBerry users can now access WSJ on move (USA)

The Wall Street Journal has launched a wireless application for RIM’s BlackBerry.

The application, WSJ.com Mobile Reader, is a free of cost application wherein the user can view headlines and articles as well.

The content can be customized based on various criteria like category lists, keywords. Users can also track specific companies, getting headlines and stock quotes, but the delay can be of nearly 30 minutes.

The content provided on WSJ.com Mobile Reader, will be from The Wall Street Journal Digital Network, MarketWatch.com, Barrons.com and AllThingsD.com. The application will be free of charge, but eventually some content will be exclusive only to the paid subscribers. The users can also take content from other sources as well.

WSJ also plans to show ads from an unamed advertiser from next month.

   

 RIM’s BlackBerry Bold knocks at Canadian Market

Telecom firm says that the owner of Canada’s biggest wireless carrier, Rogers Communication will start offering Research In Motion Ltd’s new BlackBerry Bold soon. Bold is the most advanced smartphone up till date and is the first BlackBerry which supports high-speed HSDPA cellular networks. Along with this it also comes with integrated GPS, Wi-Fi and a host of multimedia features.

RIM co-CEO Jim Balsillie earlier said that the smartphone, aimed at the company’s base of business users, will cost between $300 and $400. AT&T will be its lead carrier in the United States.
According to  Rogers spokeswoman, pricing details were not immediately available.

It is anticipated that smartphones will be available with carriers around the world by the end of this week, though AT&T has not yet disclosed when it will be launching this device.

 Apple leads the Q2 growth rate but stands second to BlackBerry for H1 market share (USA)

The US smartphone market has seen a strong double - digit growth in Q2′08. Apple leaded the league, with the growth rate of 125.6%. RIM BlackBerry came second with 92.1% yearly growth and Sony Ericsson followed in the third place.

Motorola lagged behind in the fast growing US smartphone business and was the only vendor posting double-digit drops for both sequential and annual growth in Q2.

But still RIM BlackBerry dominates the US market with a market share of 46% in H1 whereas Apple has only 15%. However, with iPhone’s continued strong success, it is likely that Apple will soon challenge the Blackberry.
