 DNA in talks with Novator to buy stakes in Elisa (Finland)

DNA, the Finnish telco, is in talks with Novator to purchasing stakes in Elisa. The descision will be taken by next week. DNA, is second to Novator’s 10% stake, holding 5.3% of Elisa. According to Risto Siivola, Chairman DNA, it’s investment in Elisa is financial and not strategic and that the firm is not look to gain a seat in Elisa’s board.

   

 Total mobile subscribers may reach 7.02 million mark (Finland)

One of the most technologically developed mobile markets of Europe is Finland. Sonera, Elisa, and DNA are the operators serving the mobile market. Though mobile penetration is above the EU average. Considering the 3G sector, growth continues to be strong. Finland has the third lowest mobile call charges of all EU Member States, behind only Denmark and Luxemburg, and the lowest 3G user costs.

Notable highlights of Finland Mobile Forecast include:

  • Wireless penetration in Finland will continue to grow, and it will reach 133.2% in 2010. Total subscribers will increase from 6.76 million to 7.02 million during the forecast period, 2008 - 2010.
  • Market shares (by subscribers) of major operators will remain roughly the same over the next several years in Finland. Sonera, Elisa and DNA will continue to have approximately 43%, 37% and 22% of total subscribers respectively in the foreseeable future.

 DNA reports first half results(Finland)

Reuters writes that Finnish cellco DNA has reported higher first half operating profit and sales, thanks to decreasing competition in its domestic mobile market. DNA posted a January-June operating profit of EUR17.7 million (USD24.5 million), compared to EUR13.1 million a year ago, on sales of EUR222.5 million. The company said it had 1.1 million mobile subscribers at the end of June, an increase of 61,000 in three months, giving it a market share of 20%. ‘Our market share is growing 0.6 to 0.7 percentage points each quarter. We aim to continue this growth,’ a DNA spokesperson said.

DNA is preparing itself for a public offering, which is expected after the end of 2007. British private equity group 3i bought a 25% stake in the firm in May for EUR140 million. Its stake was diluted to 13% in June when DNA bought fixed line operations of its six regional owners in all-share deals.

   
 

 

 

 

 3i acquires 25% of Finnish mobile operator Finnet

3i, private equity and venture capital company, has acquired 25 percent of the shares of Finnet (to be renamed DNA), Finnish mobile operator, for EUR 140 million. 3i’s stake will become 13 percent after the anticipated merger of five local operators and DNA. The shares have been acquired from 18 local telecommunications operators in the Finnet Group. DNA is one of the largest telecommunications operators in Finland, with 1.07 million mobile subscribers. DNA will offer mobile, fixed line, broadband and cable TV services following the merger. Following the acquisition, there will be no impact on DNA’s employees or operations.
