 AT&T says no to Sprint and Clearwire merger (US)

AT&T has asked the Federal Communication Commission to deny the merger request from Sprint Nextel and Clearwire. A merger that was announced last month, to facilitate a national wireless internet network that  would operate on a block of airwaves partly reserved for schools, cities and other nonprofits.

 AT&T target reverses 2Q loss (USA)

US cellular operator Dobson Communications, which is being taken over by AT&T Inc, has posted a net profit of USD16.1 million for the second quarter of 2007, reversing a loss of USD8.4 million in the year-ago period. Revenues were up 15% to USD360.2 million, beating analyst expectations of around USD345 million. AT&T recently made a USD5.1 billion takeover offer for Dobson, which had 1.72 million subscribers at the end of June.

   

 

 Cellco for sale?

Oklahoma-based rural wireless operator Dobson Communications is considering a possible sale. The firm, which has a market capitalisation of around USD1.8 billion and debts of USD2.67 billion, serves almost 1.7 million subscribers across 17 states. It offers services under the Cellular One brand, predominantly in rural areas. Dobson has hired Morgan Stanley to advise on its options.
