 Brazilian telcos lose 36.3% and Mexican telcos lose 50.7% of market value

Brazil’s eleven telcos lose their 36.3% of market value since last year, a study by a Brazilian research firm. According to the study, on November 6, the telcos’ markt value slided to $35.6bn compared to $55.8bn at end-2007.
Country’s largest fixed line operator Telesp, Telefonica unit, was worth $10.6bn on November 6, losing nearly $2.35bn of its market value since end-2007.
Vivo saw the most drastic decline fiscally, from US$8.86bn at 2007-end, to US$3.80bn on November 6. TIM fell from US$9.05bn to US$4.05bn, while Oi was down to $4.77bn from $9.12bn.
Brasil Telecom dived from $7.45bn to $6.88bn, while Embratel slipped from $386mn to $3.43bn. Telemig Celular fell from $1.01bn to $533mn, GVT’s worth was $1.32bn in contrast with US$2.56bn, Tele Norte Celular slided from to US$165mn, Telebrás’ value was off US$215mn at US$41mn and Inepar’s market cap lost US$29mn to stand at US$7mn.

The Mexican telcos were a step further in comparison to the Brazilians, as they lost nearly 50.7% of their overall market value from $148bn at end-2007 to $72.9bn on November 6.
Even though America Movil was worth $55.5bn on November 6, more than the value of all Brazilian telcos together, lost a considerable market value of $51.4bn since 2007-end.
