According to a recent report, it is seen that 65% of the total mobile phones in the Q2′08 were music enabled. On the other hand, wholly, the mobile phone sales declined in the second quarter, totaling 28 million units, off 13 percent year-over-year.
The report has estimated that the total Q2 sales approached $2.4 billion, down 2 percent since Q2 last year.
Motorola’s unit-sales share fell from 27 percent in Q1 to 21 percent, both LG and Samsung are closing in, with 20 percent unit-sales shares each.
Additionally the phones sold in Q2 were more feature rich in comparison to the one’s sold in the year prior. QWERTY keyboard handsets are experiencing an impressive year-over-year rise, accounting for 28 percent of handsets sold in Q2 2008, compared to just 12 percent a year earlier.
19% of the market share was held by the smartphones, up 9 percentage points over a year ago. Bluetooth enabled phones, 81 percent up from 69 percent last year.

T-Mobile is planning to create Apple like App store for all handsets and has started working with the developers in that regard. T-Mobile’s director of Mobile Applications and Partner Programs T-Mobile has said, “T-Mobile is working with the industry to foster an open wireless services platform which will provide developers with the tools and information they need to make new, innovative experiences available to T-Mobile’s more than 31.5M customers. The devPartner Community site, which is in its alpha stage, is just a taste of what T-Mobile has in store and we encourage you to stay tuned for more details in the coming weeks.”
It is anticipated that deal is going to work in a similar way to Apple’s offering with developers sharing revenue with T-Mobile though rather than than just work with one handset like the Apple App Store, to work with all T-Mobiles handset from the Sidekick to any newer Android based phones in the pipeline.
Presently, Apple takes a sign-up fee and 30 % of all sales of all paid for applications in the App Store.

LG is planning to set up a KES 100 million mobile phone handset assembly plant in Kenya by 2009. According to the company’s statement, the plant will lead to a reduction in the price of mobile handsets by 15%. Byung Su Lee LG’s GM said that the plant will be selling phones locally and exporting to neighboring countries. “The feasibility study is at an advanced stage but we expect to start the assembly in the second quarter of next year. Consumers will get valued added handsets at affordable rates,” Lee further added. Even company intends to train and hire local personnel, creating 60-100 jobs. The move would help increase handset accessibility in the country, especially the rural areas, said Information Minister Samuel Poghisio.

HTC’s first Android-based handsets will be shipped in the Q4′08, reports DigiTimes. If the shipping stick to the schedule, then this will be the first Android to be in the hands of the users. HTC, also expects the revenues to grow by 10%.
HTC also plans to start shipping Xperia X1 handsets to Sony Ericsson in Q3′08.

After the Beijing Olympics, China Mobile has got the approval from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) to start the second phase of construction of its TD-SCDMA network in 28 cities. Among the 28 cities, 10 cities are not provincial capital where the first stage construction took place. The total investment in the network has reached $4.38 billion according to a Media report.

LG Electronics to beat Motorola to beg the position of world’s No. 3 handset seller in third quarter. 27.7 million mobile phones in abroad and at home has been sold by LG in the second quarter. Net rise of 14% from the previous three months and reaching the sales figure to the world’s fourth largest. According to the statistics, Global market share of LG is 9.1% and Motorola’s 9.2%. Dr. Siegal Sadetzki, head of the Gertner Institute for Epidemiology and Health Policy at Sheba Medical Center, Tel Hashomer has drafted the guidelines for the safe use of mobile phones which call fo children to be limited in how much they use their handsets. Israel’s Ministry of Health has published guidelines so that people use the phone wisely.
Sadetzki told “Even though we have not yet reached the height of information on the issue, there are already answers to some of the questions that have arisen regarding the use of mobile phones.” “The public is very interested in the issue of radiation emanating from cell phones, but continues to use them as usual,” she added. ”
Sadetzki found a link between cell phone usage and the development of tumors. Dr. Sadetzki published the results of a study recently in which she and her colleagues found that heavy cell phone users were subject to a higher risk of benign and malignant tumors of the salivary gland.
She recommended that people use hands-free devices at all times, and when talking, hold the phone away from one’s body. Less frequent calls, shorter in duration, will also have some preventative effect.
