 Mobile advertisements more eye-catching now

Hoardings, electronic display boards and banners are seen every nook and corner of the city these days. The latest addition to the publicity blitz is ‘mobile’ advertisements.

When it comes to mobile ads it is the RTC buses which are the most sought after by business establishments, thereby fetching a sizeable revenue to the Road Transport Corporation.

Hyderabad, once known as ‘City of Pearls and Biryani’ has now earned a sobriquet of ‘City of Advertisements’ thanks to mushrooming hoardings all across the city. A look from any highrise building will explain the whole scenario.

In the recent months, the twin cities are witnessing more ‘mobile’ advertisements either on buses or hoardings mounted on vehicles.

Speaking to this website’s newspaper, APSRTC Secretary Nageswara Rao said the corporation was receiving a steady income through advertisements.

“The revenue from advertisements on buses and in bus stations has gone up from Rs 463.54 lakh in 2001-02 to Rs 501.13 lakh,” he said.

The lion’s share of RTC’s advertisement revenue has come from the twin cities. The Hyderabad City Region (HCR) alone is said to be contributing more than Rs 1 crore every year to the corporation as ad revenue.

“We have now streamlined the whole system and have outsourced the contract to a private agency which in turn will deal with potential clients,” RTC-HCR Regional Manager C Pandu Ranga Murthy said.

The agency (Prithvi Associates) has bagged the contract for the next five years by paying Rs 5 crore to the RTC. The city region alone has earmarked 1,900 buses for ad space.

According to an official of Prithvi Agencies, advertisement space is leased out for a period ranging from one month to one year depending on the needs of clients. Textile shops top the list of business establishments which prefer mobile advertisements, the official said.
