 Jazztel reports a 6% growth in revenues of Q2′08 (Spain)

Jazz Telecom (Jazztel), Spain, has released its results of Q2′08, reporting 6% growth in revenues for the quarter year-on-year. Revenues grew to USD123.6 million (EUR77.8 million ), but the company still made a loss of USD 38.92 million (EUR24.7 million).

Earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) fell 28% to USD 472,761 (EUR300,000).

The company has announced it is aiming to claim a 5.5% share of Spain’s broadband market by 2010 and according to a database the telco is currently fifth-placed in the market, behind Orange Espana and Telefonica de Espana. Jazztel has also recently expanded its services, launching an MVNO mobile service in June 2008, piggybacking on Orange’s network.

   

 Jazztel starts mobile services (Spain)

Reuters reports that Spanish telecoms operator Jazztel has launched an MVNO mobile service and aims to have between 170,000 to 190,000 customers by 2010. According to Chief Executive Jose Miguel Garcia Jazztel, which already offers fixed line telephony, broadband internet and pay-TV services, his firm will piggyback on Orange’s network.

   

 

 

 Jazztel partners with Orange for MVNO launch (Spain)

Spanish internet provider Jazztel has signed an agreement with France Telecom Espana (Orange) to further assess the possibility of offering virtual mobile services through Orange’s network. The agreement will be developed by both companies allowing Jazztel to launch its mobile services in the next few months.

   

 Jazztel starts pilots of VDSL2 network in Spain

Spanish operator Jazztel has begun pilot tests of its VDSL2 network which allows faster upload and download internet speeds. Jazztel has 530 exchanges in Spain which are enabled with ADSL2+ which offer speeds of up to 50 Mbps, to customers 200-300 metres from the exchange, the case with 10 percent of customers in Spain. Customers who are 800-900 metres from the local loops, 40 percent of total loops, would receive speeds of 25 Mbps. The company said the technology also improved interference and noise. Rival Telefonica has also recently begun testing VDSL2 in Madrid.

   

 Jazztel sales up 18%, losses narrow in Q1

Spanish operator Jazztel reported first-quarter sales of EUR 74.5 million, up 18 percent from the year-earlier. EBITDA losses narrowed to EUR 6 million from EUR 46 million a year earlier, helped by cost reductions, and the net loss halved to EUR 28.6 million from EUR 64.0 million. Capex fell to EUR 12.7 million from EUR 27.7 million a year ago as Jazztel neared completion of its network build-out. The number of ADSL customers fell to 238,468 at the end of March, from 247,451 at the end of 2006, which the company said was the result of cleaning up its numbers and disconnecting unpaid customers. Of the total 229,062 used the unbundled local loop network.

   

 Jazztel eliminated from Ya.com sale?

Telegeography writes….Jazztel has been eliminated from the final round of bidding for Deutsche Telekom’s Spanish ISP Ya.com, leaving only Vodafone and France Telecom’s Orange still in the running, according to newspaper Expansion. The newspaper cited Jazztel sources as saying that the company has not received any information to this effect and noted that it has not abandoned the bidding process. Ya.com has nearly 450,000 ADSL customers.
