Sri Lankan alternative telco Lanka Bell has lit a link to the ‘Falcon’ section of the FLAG international submarine fibre-optic cable system, owned by India’s Reliance Communications, reports Lanka Business Online. Lanka Bell plans to offer a range of business broadband services via the cable, and said in a statement it had already set up the infrastructure for services such as call centres and international data centres (IDC) to take advantage of the new link, in which it invested LKR3 billion. Lanka Bell owns Sri Lanka’s Falcon/FLAG landing station as well as capacity rights on the system, and plans to launch services including global voice, internet solutions, managed bandwidth based on MPLS, international private leased circuits and value added services. TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database says that the island’s incumbent PSTN operator Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT) provides international cable connectivity via the consortium SEA-ME-WE system as well as the Bharat Lanka cable to India and the Colombo-Male link to the Maldives.
