 Brazil’s mobile phone circulation reaches 138.3 million at the end of August (Brazil)

According to the Brazilian regulator, Anatel’s prelim figures, Brazil’s mobile phones circulation reaches a total of 138.3 million at the end of August, up by 2.2% since July.
Nearly 3million additions for the month of July.

   

 MNP to improve service quality (Malaysia)

Mobile phone users can now enjoy the freedom of switching network service providers without having to relinquish their original phone number, including the prefix number. For the pre-paid mobile users of Klang Valley who can use this service but post-paid users will soon to take the benefit.  Energy, Water and Communications Minister Datuk Shaziman Abu Mansor said the service, known as Mobile Number Portability (MNP), would take away the inconvenience associated with switching service providers and consumers’ concern over losing their contacts when doing so. Service providers are allowed to charge up to RM25 each time subscribers change their mobile phone service provider. This will give the users choice and freedom to choose their service providers without the inconvenience of having to change their numbers, Shaziman added. MNP was about to improve service quality, better packages, better customer service and giving consumers choice, adding that initially only individual account holders would be able to use the service while business accounts could do so after the nationwide launch, Shaziman further said.

 Telcos may have to pay fine for unverified users (India)

According to a media report, Department of Telecommunications (DoT) is considering penalties for all telcos that have not verified their subscribers. DoT’s sets up an internal committe to determine penalties and plans to impose fines of up to Rs.5,000 per unverified user.
The DoT is considering three different fines to come into force after April 2009:

  • Rs.1,000 per unverified user will be applicable for those telcos whose verification rate is over 95%
  • Rs.5,000 for operators with a verification rate of 90%
  • Rs.10,000 for those below the 90% cut-off.

Fines can only be imposed after endorsement of the proposals by the Telecom Commission.

 Telmex looses 7,800 clients as Mexicans prefer cable operators providing phone services (Mexico)

According to the data released by the national cable association Canitec, Telmex has lost over 7,800 users who have preferred the services of other cable or telephone operators. Telefonos de Mexico adds 750 new telephone customers. The services of cable operators which also offers phone services is preferred by around 2,000 ported clients.

Maintaining the momentum in the world’s fastest-growing mobile sevices market, Indian Mobile firms added 8.94 million users in June.Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) says that there were 286.86 million wireless users in India at the end of June, up 55 % from a year earlier.

Bharti Airtel  led the signings in June with 2.55 million new customers. The company had 69.4 million mobile users at end-June.

Reliance Communications added 1.74 million wireless users to have 50.79 million subscribers begs no. 2 position.

Follwing it  Vodafone Essar, controlled by Britain’s Vodafone Plc, added 1.73 million mobile customers in June, taking its total to 49.2 million.

 600 million mobile users in China

The world’s biggest cellphone market  now tops with 600 million mobile users as subscribers increasingly abondon fixes lines government said. According to  Ministry of Information Industry, from January to June, the nation of 1.3 billion recorded 53.5 million new cellphone users. Mobile phone users in the country increased to 601 million at the end of June, up by 8.6 million from the end of May. On the contrary, fixed-line subscribers fell by 9.3 million in the first six months to 356 million.
Mobile service is becoming more popular in the country after operators lowered tolls in March for making phone calls outside a user’s registered local service area and cancelled charges for answering calls in some cities.

China has been leapfrogging into the age of mobile telephony because of the huge costs associated with installing fixed lines across a nation the size of the United States.
