Telecom Italia Mobile (TIM) is partnering with digital entertainment company, Buongiorno, to launch mytones, a multimedia store for ringtones for TIM customers on 2G and 3G mobile phones, which the pair are marketing as a social network. No deal terms were disclosed. Buongiorno says mytones recognises and rewards musical talent within the ringtone sector and establishes a new social network. The company says mytones was developed for TIM clients interested in creating and promoting their own music to an audience which expects the best music and the service combines mobile user-generated content with social networking. The company says over 7m people in Italy downloaded at least one ringtone in the last six months.
Interest in mobile music is rapidly increasing, which is one of the main reasons the two companies say they came together to design and launch mytones. Ovum’s analysts say mobile entertainment content will be worth USD56bn by 2010 and the mobile music market will reach USD25bn.
