Alcatel - Lucent signs a contract with 3 Italia for the expansion and optimization of the operators broadcast mobile TV network across the country. The solutions will be based on DVB-H terrestrial transmitters, its remote monitoring system and including network integration services, which will enable the telco to enhance the indoor and outdoor coverage and efficiency.
Alcatel-Lucnt will also extend and increase the density of the DVB-H terrestrial transmitters network across Italy, enabling 3 Italia to offer broadcast mobile TV services to its 8.45 million UMTS subscribers.
The solutions for 3 Italia will be based on its 9600 DTH, future-proof multistandard digital terrestrial transmitter that can deliver DVB-T and DVB-H broadcast solutions, as well as a smooth evolution to DVB-SH. The transmitters are designed and optimized according to the specific requirements of mobile operators and can easily be integrated into their mobile sites.

Irdeto and SafeNet sign co-operation on mobile TV protection

The foundation of information security SafeNet and digital content security provider Irdeto have signed a partnership in mobile TV protection. The resulting joint solution unites two normally competing technologies: conditional access and digital rights management (DRM) to reduce risk and uncertainty for broadcasters and operators, and enable mobile TV to reach its potential. Conditional access brings the experience of decades of deployment in cable, terrestrial, broadband and satellite, while DRM exploits open standards favoured by the mobile community. Under the partnership, SafeNet’s DRM Fusion Toolkit4TV will be integrated into Irdeto’s mobile broadcast conditional access solution, therefore supporting all networks and protection standards. The joint solution is the only one to support conditional access using DVB-OSF and DRM using DVB-18Crypt, MBMS Security, and OMA BCAST. Through support for SimulCrypt, a part of the overall DVB standard, the joint solution also supports simultaneous deployment of multiple mobile TV protection standards within a single system. This allows the system to use OMA BCAST smartcard profile with standards-enabled handsets and SIMs, and DVB-OSF with other handsets and broadcast-only devices. Under the terms of the partnership, Irdeto and SafeNet will collaborate on an end-to-end OMA 2 DRM solution, integrating SafeNet’s DRM Fusion Toolkit server solution, and Irdeto’s mobile DRM client solution. Irdeto has more than a million mobile TV conditional access users in South Korea, South Africa and Germany.

The consortium of cellcos including Vodafone Germany, T-Mobile Deutschland and O2 Germany that intends to launch a mobile TV service based on DVB-H technology has attracted the attention of the federal cartel office, reports Telecompaper, quoting the Financial Times Deutschland. The office is to investigate the trio, and will take three months to look into possible competition breaches of the new service. The three operators plan to launch the DVB-H service at the beginning of 2008 and hope to operate a nationwide network, though this still has to be approved by the cartel office.

Nokia adds two mobile ad services
- March 7th, 2007
- 3:56 pm
FierceMobileContent writes…Nokia announced two new mobile advertising services, one a fully-managed platform for advertisers and the other a private-label solution for third party publishers. The Nokia Ad Service is designed to support and manage the complete ad campaign lifecycle, including planning, deploying and reporting. According to Nokia, the service targets advertisers launching global mobile campaigns, agencies expanding into mobile advertising alongside traditional media initiatives, and publishers exploring new business models and larger consumer audiences.
Nokia Ad Service is now available in Europe and will roll out globally in the second half of 2007. “Mobile advertising is becoming an increasingly attractive channel for brands,” said director of Nokia Ad Service Tom Henriksson in a prepared statement. “We have completed a number of pilot campaigns with advertisers and mobile publishers for testing the Nokia ad serving technology and consumer experience. The feedback has been very positive from all parties.”
Nokia Advertising Connector pairs the handset giant with newspaper publishers and other traditional media outlets as well as aggregators and operators to deliver targeted advertisements to mobile devices. According to Nokia, the service acts as an “intelligent switch,” selecting between text, video and audio ads contingent on the consumer context; ads will be optimized to specific multimedia applications including mobile TV, music and mapping services. Nokia Advertising Connector also features reporting and analytics tools to manage advertiser ROI.
Nokia plans several Advertising Connector pilots in the months ahead, aiming toward commercial availability by late 2007. “Think of the Connector as a one-stop delivery point with intelligence,” said Nokia Multimedia’s head of business development Matthew Snyder in a prepared statement.
