 Mobilkom Austria improves 3G coverage, plans to deploy femtocell

Mobilkom Austria is making an effort to improve 3G network coverage by deploying femtocells. With 35 business and residential users trials have been instigated. The commercial launch of femtocell technology has been scheduled for mid-2009. Huawei Technologies is providing equipment for the trials.

 Bosnia and Herzegovina to sell 51 percent of BH Telekom (Bosnia and Herzegovina)

The government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina is preparing the privatisation of the country’s biggest state-owned telecom operator BH Telekom. The privatisation should take place by the end of the year and the starting price for 51 percent of the shares would be EUR 1.01 billion, according to local media reports. The government is inclined to sell 51 percent to a strategic partner and then offer another 15 percent of shares on the Sarajevo Stock Exchange or other foreign markets. The government will retain 26 percent of the ownership of BH Telekom. The companies being mentioned as potential buyers include Deutsche Telekom and Mobilkom Austria.

   

 Kosmocell bags second Kosovan licence

Telegeography writes…A consortium headed by local businessmen has been declared the winner of a second wireless concession in the United Nations-run province of Kosovo. Kosmocell, a partnership between local companies Dukagjini, Kujtesa and an unnamed Italian/US operator, emerged as the winner beating rival offers from Telekom Slovenije’s Ipko Net, Mobilkom Austria and Team Kosova. Kosmocell offered EUR81 million (USD104.8 million) for the licence.
