DNA, the Finnish telco, is in talks with Novator to purchasing stakes in Elisa. The descision will be taken by next week. DNA, is second to Novator’s 10% stake, holding 5.3% of Elisa. According to Risto Siivola, Chairman DNA, it’s investment in Elisa is financial and not strategic and that the firm is not look to gain a seat in Elisa’s board.

Novator, Viva sell 65% BTC stake to AIG Global

Novator and Viva Ventures have signed an agreement to sell Viva’s 65 percent stake in Bulgarian Telecommunications (BTC) to AIG Global Investment Group. Novator has the option to buy all the shares in Viva. The transfer of the BTC shares to AIG Global will occur on of after 11 June when restrictions, defined in the privatisation agreement from 2004 regarding Viva’s sale of shares in BTC, have been lifted. The acquisition price is BGN 11.25 per share, equal to a total of BGN 2.11 billion for the 65 percent stake. After closing of the acquisition and in compliance with Bulgarian legislation, AIG will launch a tender offer for the remaining BTC shares

Telegeography writes…According to the International Herald Tribune, Thor Bjorgolfsson, Iceland’s first billionaire, is reviewing his involvement in the Bulgarian Telecommunications Company (BTC). According to the reports, Novator, Mr Bjorgolfsson’s investment vehicle, has appointed Lehman Brothers to advise it on what to do with an option to acquire a 65% stake in BTC from Viva Ventures, an arm of US-based global private equity group Advent International.
P4 to launch by April, ready or not

Telegeography writes…P4, the wireless joint venture between Netia and Iceland’s Novator, will launch services by the end of the first quarter, company representatives said at a press conference. The announcement followed news that construction of its own 3G network would not be complete at launch, but that the company had decided it would not wait any longer. As a result, P4 will not offer 3G services from the get-go but will instead use Polkomtel’s GSM network to offer 2.5G services.
