 Pannon and T-Mobile together launch MobilePayment (Hungary)

Hungary based mobile operator Pannon and T Mobile together with financial institutions FHB and MPP launch a mobile payment service, dubbed as MobilePayment. The service is available to Pannon and T Mobile postpaid and prepaid customers who have a bank account at FHB. Service users can pay for products or services directly via their mobile phones to merchants joining the system, either in the shops or with remote access, as well as pay mobile phone bills, or top-up their mobile accounts, or transfer money to other customers using the system.

   

 Hungary launches two mobile licence tenders to boost competition

The Hungarian telecom regulator, National Communication Authority, launches two mobile licence tenders and a proposal to provide mobile infrastructure development. The two mobile licence will be valid for 15 years. According to Daniel Pataki, President NHH, the following descision has been taken in order to boost mobile market competition in the country. He also adds that though the country has a mobile penetration of 108%, countyry’s 20% population still doesn’t own a mobile phone and the price competition has been stagnant among the existing mobile operator i.e. T-Mobile, Pannon and Vodafone.
Looking at the present financial scenario, Pataki adds ‘We have called the tender now as market conditions could turn even more unfavorable, since nobody can tell when this global financial market turmoil could end’.

   

 Pannon has announced availabilty of high speed 3G in 360 towns (Hungary)

Pannon, Hungary, has announced that the availability of high speed 3G/HSPDA network in 360 town and villages across Hungary.
The cellco has been assessing the coverage of the network to accommodate strong demand for mobile broadband internet services. The Hungarian mobile operator has experienced an impressive rise in the data volumes carried over its HSDPA network in the past year.

It’s initial HSPDA roll out was done in Budapest, since then Pannon extended coverage to the Lake Balaton region and begun implementing major upgrade projects in other parts of the country, including Heves county. The latest expansion took in the town of Hatvan to the east of the capital.

    

 Hungary’s mobile market profile (Hungary)

Hungary’s mobile market, like that of its Central European counterparts, has matured with penetration rates surpassing 100%. Services are offered by three mobile network operators, T-Mobile, Pannon (Telenor), and Vodafone all of which are majority or wholly owned by Western European operators. However, all is not well for the mobile operators, with ARPU levels in decline for some time although the latest data shows the end may be in sight, with falling ARPU levels showing signs of stabilisation. Mobile broadband usage is increasingly coming into focus, with a growing variety of affordable mobile broadband plans coupled with mobile content and applications available via EDGE, UMTS and HSDPA networks.
Notable highlights of the Hungary Mobile Forecast 2008 - 2010 are:

  • Total subscribers in Hungary will increase from 11.8 million in 2008 to our forecasted 13 million in 2010.
  • It is estimated that wireless penetration levels in Hungary will increase from 115% to 126.2% over the forecast period of 2008 - 2010.
  • Market shares of major operators will remain roughly the same over the next several years in Hungary. T-Mobile, Pannon (Telenor), and Vodafone will continue to have approximately 43.7%, 36%, and 20.8% of total subscribers in the country.
  • The three operators will continue to see similar ARPU levels. The ARPU levels in Hungary are generally increasing, and they will be in the range of US$ 30 - US$ 32 across operators in 2010.

 Hungary to have 12.8million subscribers by 2010 - Wireless Federation Forecast

Hungary, a rapidly growing telecom market, will have 12.8million subscribers in 2010 growing from 10.7million in 2007, a Wireless Federation forecast. It is estimated that wireless penetration levels in Hungary will increase from 104% to 123.9% over the forecast period of 2006 - 2010.

It also predicted, that the market share of major operators will remain the same over next several years in Hungary. T-Mobile, Pannon (Telenor), and Vodafone will continue to have 44%, 33.9%, and 21.8% of total subscribers in the country.

According to the sources, the three operators, T-Mobile, Pannon (Telenor), and Vodafone, will continue to see similar ARPU levels in the range of $24 - $25 per month in 2010.

 Pannon revenues fall by 2.8% in H1′08 (Hungary)

Pannon, Hungarian GSM operator, reported it’s revenues of USD615.6 million (HUF91.1 billion) in the first six months of 2008, down 2.8% year-on-year, while 2Q08 revenue dipped 2.2% to HUF46.2 billion.The operator said its financial performance had been impacted by declining termination and roaming fees which had cut the cellco’s turnover by HUF1 billion in the first half of the year. EBITDA was HUF38.1 billion in 1H 2008, up 1.5% on the corresponding period of 2007, while 2Q08 EBITDA reached HUF19.1 billion, up 3.5% y-o-y. 1H 2008 CAPEX was HUF8.3 billion.

Pannon reported 13,000 net new additions in the second quarter of this year to end June with 3.414 million mobile subscribers, a market share of 33.27% (down 0.27 percentage points on the previous quarter). Of the total, 41.3% were on monthly contracts, up from 40.5% three months earlier, although the rise in post-paid users did not help sustain monthly blended ARPU which dipped by 6% in the first half of 2008.

   

 Pannon wins subscribers adds in October (Hungary)

Hungarian mobile operator Pannon increased its market share in October, at the expense of rivals Vodafone and T-Mobile, according to figures from regulator NNN. Pannon held 34.96 percent of the subscribers in October compared to 34.85 percent in September, with Vodafone dropping from 21.07 percent in September to 21.02 in October. T-Mobile also dropped, from 44.08 percent share in September to 44.02 percent in October. In total the market grew by 0.76 percent in October compared to the previous month. Active subscriptions reached 9.715 million in October versus 9.655 million in September. Pannon added 40,000 new customers, T-Mobile around 30,000 and Vodafone just over 10,000.

   

 Pannon reports third quarter results (Hungary)

Hungarian cellco Pannon, owned by Norway’s Telenor Group, has posted third quarter results showing year-on-year EBITDA improved 5.4% to HUF20.7 billion (USD11.8 million), on the back of slightly reduced turnover, down 1.3% to HUF48.9 billion. Subscriber monthly ARPU decreased by 8% y-o-y to HUF4,729 in the three months to 30 September, while subscriber numbers themselves increased to 3.22 million, from 2.98 million twelve months ago.Pannon was Hungary’s second-placed cellco by subscribers at the end of June this year with a 32.3% market share, behind T-Mobile Hungary (45.7%) but ahead of Vodafone Hungary (22%).

   

 

 Pannon’s HSDPA coverage reaches 40% (Hungary)

Hungarian cellco Pannon has expanded its 3.5G UMTS/HSDPA network to nearly 80 towns and cities, or around 40% of the country’s population, after rolling out services to Sopron, Kaposvar, Dunaujvaros, Veszprem, Hodmezovasarhely and Salgotarján. Pannon is offering a 50% discount on mobile internet packages until the end of October.

   

 

 

 Pannon leads subscriber adds again in July (Hungary)

Pannon had the largest number of subscriber additions in the Hungaraian mobile market in July, gaining nearly 40,000 versus just over 10,000 each for T-Mobile and Vodafone. In total the market grew to 10.286 million subscribers from 10.226 million in June.
