Sony Ericsson has launched a new product in the content market, the PlayNow Arena website. The website features mobile content like music, games etc.
Initially, the website shows off with 1 million DRM-free tracks from the record labels such as Sony BMG, Warner Music and EMI.
The site will be expanding to other European countries by the end of this year and will be global site by the end of 2009, and will be selling an estimate of 5 million tracks.
According to Martin Blomkvist, Sony Ericsson’s head of content acquisition and management, that offering digital music minus the rights or copying restrictions and games will help the site to pull as many users as possible, which will inturn lead to a separate revenue stream, and will stimulate handset sales.
All tracks sold in Sweden will cost SEK 9.
