 Dutch mobile industry’s revenues fall by 0.5% in Q3′08

The Dutch mobile industry genrates a revenue of $2.01 billion in Q3′08, a fall of 0.5% since last year and 0.7% since last quarter, driven by decline in revenues at T-Mobile, alongwith cuts in mobile termination and roaming prices. The non-voice service revenues grew at a slow pace of 17% year-on-year and voice revenues fell 5%.

   

 Orascom Telecom net profits fall by 28% in Q3 as Mobilink’s revenues decline (Egypt)

Orascom Telecom, the Egyptian mobile operator, posts a net profit of $90.5 million for Q3′08, experiencing a fall of 28% since 2007, driven by a fall in revenues in its Pakistani operations.
“Most of our businesses, with the exception of Pakistan, continue to perform on target in terms of growth and profitability,” chairman Naguib Sawiris said in a statement. “In Pakistan the political, security, financial and economic conditions have been very difficult.”
ARPU for Mobilink Pakistan declined by 26% due to the depriciation in Pakistan Rupee against US Dollar.
The company posted $1.37 billion of revenues for Q3. The Egyptian operator ended the quarter with a subscriber base of 79 million, experiencing a rise of 22% since last year.
   

 Bouygues Telecom posts a subscriber base of 9.32Mn at Sept-end (France)

Bouygues posts a 10% year-on-year rise in Q3′08 from $10 billion to $11.13 billion driven by strong growth in its construction and real-estate activities, and a steady performance from its telecoms arm. Bouygues Telecom revenues for Q3′08 rose by 5.3% to $1.63 billion from $1.55 billion since Q3′07. The French operator reports a 6.5% increase in sales for the period of January to September’08 to $4.73 billion. Sales from network services rose by 5.1% despite an 8% cut in call termination charges and the regulation of roaming charges.
The subscriber base totalled to 9.327 million mobile subscribers.

   

 Telefonica posts a subscriber base of 189 million at Q3′08 end

Telefonica reports a rise in Q3′08 revenues by 5.7% to $ 18.82 billion since ;ast year driven by continous growth in its mobile activities in Latin America. OIBDA fell 15.4% to $7.41 billion and net profits slipped to $2.51 billion, a fall of nearly 50%. driven by one-time gain in the year-earlier period for selling Endemol. Revenues in Latin America rose 14.5% to $7.26 billion, and Telefonica Spain’s revenues increased by 2% to $6.76 billion. Telefonica in Europe posted a 0.6% fall in sales to $4.63 billion. Telefonica subscriber base grew by 6.2 million in Q3′08 ending the quarter with 189 million mobile subscribers.

   

 Telekom Austria’s profits fall to $204.2 million y-o-y basis (Austria)

Telekom Austria posts a fall of 6.2% in net profits in Q3′08, to $204.2 million from $217.76 million in 2007. Revenues rose by 4% year-on-year at $1.66 billion, in line with estimates, while EBITDA went up by 3% to $1.89 billion. Sales for the telco were caused by consolidation of Belarusian cellular operator Velcom. The operator ended Q3′08 with a subscriber base of 17 million, a rise of 51.5% year-on-year, driven by addition of Velcom and organic growth across all subsidiaries.

   

 Telecom NZ reports a decline of 34% in profits (New Zealand)

Telecom New Zealand, posts a fall in profits by 34% in Q1′08. Net income fell to $88 million from $134 million year-on-year. Q1 revenues rose by 2.3% to $0.85 billion and EBITDA fell by 3.3% to $277.6 million all caused by the economic slowdown and the government’s decision last year requiring Telecom to allow rivals to access its local network and set the access charges.

   

 Personal totals subscriber base to 13.75Mn in Q3′08, VAS leads to rising ARPU (Argentina)

Personal, the Argentina based mobile operator, posted net profits of US$51.4million in Q3′08, a rise of 31% in comparison to $39.58 Million last year.
Personal’s revenues in Q3′08 counted to $0.55 Billion, up 23% from $0.45 billion a year earlier. The operator’s subscriber base totalled to 13.75 million in Argentina and Paraguay at the end of September, up by 18%.
According to COO, Telecom Argentina, Personal’s parent company, Personal has the highest market mix of prepaid and postpaid subscribers as well as the highest participation of value added services (VAS) for service revenues, leading to greater ARPU.
The Paraguay unit, which operates under the Núcleo brand, had a subscriber base of 1.81mn at the end of Q3, a rise of 21%. The Argentine operation totaled the subscriber base to 11.94mn at Q3′08 end, up by 18%. Nearly 66% of Argentine subscribers are prepaid.

   

 Sprint Nextel losses 1.1Mn postpaid subscribers in Q3′08 (USA)

Sprint Nextel, USA, reports a quaterly loss and lowered revenues driven by CHURN to rival operators. It posted a net loss of $326 million in comparison to profit of $64 million last year and a downfall in revenue to $8.81 billion, from $10.04 billion a year ago.
The telco lost nearly 1.1 million postpaid subscribers the one’s who paid monthly bills. Including postpaid and prepaid subscribers, who pay for calls in advance and do not commit to monthly contracts, Sprint lost 1.3 million subscribers in Q3′08.

   

 Belgacom posts Q3 revenues of $1.89 billion, down by 2.6% (Belgium)

Belgiums leading telcoms company, Belgacom reports net profit of $276.8 Million, observing a fall of 7.3% in Q3′08 and revenues of $1.89 billion, down by 2.6% since last year, caused by economic breakdown.
The company said that despite all the challenges from strong competition and pricing regulations, its core results were “solid” for the quarter.
Its mobile operator Proximus added 33,000 new mobile subscribers.
The company continues to look for new acquisition opportunities outside Belgium but good deals that create shareholder value are “not that common.”

   

 Telecom Italia posts 13% drop in Q3 profits, reaffirms ‘08 targets (Italy)

Telecom Italia, Italy’s leading mobile operator , posts a 13% drop in its Q3′08, but comfirms to reach its 2008 targets. The operator reported profits of $803 million in comparison to $903.53 million since last year.
Revenues fell by 1.4% to $9.63 million since last year.
CEO Franco Bernabe, Telecom Italia, reaffirms to stick to its 2008 targets with revenues in excess of $29 billion, noting that the telecommunications industry “has not demonstrated particular weakenesses” amid the global financial turmoil.
