The Wall Street Journal has launched a wireless application for RIM’s BlackBerry.
The application, WSJ.com Mobile Reader, is a free of cost application wherein the user can view headlines and articles as well.
The content can be customized based on various criteria like category lists, keywords. Users can also track specific companies, getting headlines and stock quotes, but the delay can be of nearly 30 minutes.
The content provided on WSJ.com Mobile Reader, will be from The Wall Street Journal Digital Network, MarketWatch.com, Barrons.com and AllThingsD.com. The application will be free of charge, but eventually some content will be exclusive only to the paid subscribers. The users can also take content from other sources as well.
WSJ also plans to show ads from an unamed advertiser from next month.

The mobile phone shipments in the US have experienced an increase of 5.3% increase in the Q2′08, as the mobile phone companies post strong results.
According to analysts, 41.9 million cellphones were shipped in the quarter, up from 39.8 million a year earlier.
Shipments are expected to drop, due to rising inflation and the consumers reduce their spending on luxury items. Even with a market that is at 80% saturation, consumers are buying replacement phones, which have become a key sales target.
Motorola, at 26%, manages to cling to its lead in the US market share. It had posted a wider loss of $346 million in the Q2′08, and has plans to seperate its mobile phone unit from its other operations. Neil Mawston, director at Strategy Analytics, commented that “Motorola is not yet out of the woods, but these are encouraging, early signs of stabilization.”
Worldwide, Motorola saw its market share fall to the third position.
LG came second in the U.S. market as it sold 16.8 million phones in the H1′08 and aims to hold 22% of the market by the end of the year.
Whereas, RIMM, BlackBerry gains a double digit market share for the first time in the US market as the firm is offering an increased the number of handsets.
Collectively, the quater seemed to appear better than expected for the mobile phone manufacturers as Nokia reported a leap in sales whereas Samsung Electronics Co. said its handset sales helped boost its profit 51%.

Emirates Integrated Telecommunications Company PJSC, or Du, Chief Executive Osman Sultan revealed, that the company will be launching Research In Motion Ltd. (RIMM) BlackBerry in the Persian Gulf state after recieving goverment’s approval.
“Everybody knows BlackBerry and it was necessary for us to expand it to our entire customer base including prepaid customers,” Osman Sultan reported.
Earlier it was only Etisalat, that was the sole operator to provide BlackBerry in the UAE, which was launched 2 years ago.
Along with targeting the prepaid subscriber, it will also facilitate the corporate subscribers.
This launch indicates a cut throat competition among the two operators to win the licence to market Apple iPhone.
“Apple will make the decision with the regulators, we want to offer our services to our customers through any devise they wish it to be a BlackBerry interface, Microsoft Windows mobile, or Apple’s iPhone,” he said.
