Telefonica Spain offers to buy the shares of Telefonica Chile. The telco has asked for the the shares it doesn’t own and the deal is worth $985 million.
The operator which owns a controlling stake in the Chilean telco, wants to launch a public offer through it’s Chilean counterpart in order to buy the rest 55.1% stake it doesn’t own.

Elisa posts a steep fall in Q2 profits (Finland)

Elisa, Finland’s telecom operator, has posted a steep fall in second-quarter profits, but repeated it sees sales and profits in 2008 flat year-on-year.
Elisa reported April-June earnings per share of 0.20 euro, compared with 0.31 euro a year earlier.
