 Softbank Corp. earns maximum iPhone 3G subscribers (Japan)

Softbank Corp., Japan’s third largest mobile operator, has gained it’s subscriber base, all thanks to the launch of Apple iPhone 3G to 215,000.  It’s rivals have gained less subscribers, DoCoMo - 94,000 ; KDDI - 17,000; and eAccess - 65,000.

In just a month, Softbank sold around 100,000 units of iPhone 3G in Japan. The company said their iPhone 3G supply is now becoming stable and they will reduce monthly charges for iPhone 3G customers to as low as 2,990 yen (27.3230 USD) from 7,280 yen (66.5215 USD) hoping to attract more users and increase profits.

Softbank Corp., has announced that it would cut it’s monthly fees for Apple iPhone. Softbank Corp., Japan’s third-biggest mobile phone operator, the cuts will mean that the iPhone customers will pay 2,990 yen a month for the device, down from 7,280 yen earlier.

 NTT DoCoMo sees a rise of 45% in Q2′08 profit (Japan)

NTT DoCoMo Inc, Japan’s top mobile phone operator, has declared its quarterly profit which rose 45 percent after it slashed incentives on handsets, and it kept its full-year forecast for small earnings growth.

DoCoMo, which has KDDI Corp and Softbank Corp as competitors in Japan’s tough mobile market, said its group operating profit totalled 296.5 billion yen ($2.75 billion) in the three months ended June, against a 203.9 billion yen profit a year earlier.

For the year to March, DoCoMo kept its profit forecast at 830 billion yen, up 2.7 percent from the previous year.

DoCoMo’s earnings were boosted by the introduction in November of an instalment payment plan, which shrank incentives paid to handset retailers and lowered the company’s cost burden.

Slower handset sales dented overall sales in the quarter, but helped profits by reducing procurement costs and distribution fees.
