 China Mobile inks a supply of dual band handset deal with Nokia (China)

China Mobile, inks a contract with world’s leading handset manufacturer Nokia to supply dual band handsets next year compatible with both GSM and TD-SCDMA networks in China. The company, according to an official is also in talks with Motorola and Sony-Ericsson on the supply of dual band handsets.

   

 China Mobile proclaimes results of TD-SCDMA equipment bidding (China)

China Mobile has proclaimed the results of a second round of TD-SCDMA equipment bidding. Datang and associated affiliates and subsidiaries, including Datang Mobile, Alcatel-Shanghai Bell, Fiberhome and New Postcom, won a combined 35-40% share of the bid, with Datang Mobile winning over 25%. ZTE won 28% of the bid, Huawei 17%-18%, Nokia Siemens Networks 8%, China Putian (Potevio) 6% and Ericsson 4.5%. According to an insider, China Mobile would begin a third round of TD-SCDMA equipment bidding in March 2009, which the goal of covering 162 additional cities.

   

 China Mobile & HTC together develop Android-based TD-SCDMA phones (China)

China Mobile and Taiwan-based High Tech Computer (HTC) maker of T-Mobile will be working together on developing an Android-based TD-SCDMA handset, media reported. The confirmation is awaited from China Mobile but it is anticipated that that the TD-SCDMA phone based on the Android platform will be different from the earlier G1 products from HTC. As there was a delay in completion of OMS applications therefore the launch was tentatively re-scheduled on Q2 2009.

   

 China Unicom trials 3G services in Baoding City (China)

China Unicom trials it’s 3G WCDMA services in Baoding City in northern China, where China Mobile is all ready to launch the TD-CDMA trials.
China Unicom has 129.46 million subscriber base for its GSM services, up from 128.55 million at the end of July.  As of the end of April 2008, the company had 43 million CDMA subscribers.

   

 China Mobile kick starts the second phase of TD-CDMA bid (China)

China Mobile kicks off second round of bidding for TD-CDMA network equipment. The cellco seeks to buy 23,000 wireless base stations for network expansion.
China Mobile, reportedly, is likely to spend nearly RMB30 billion (USD4.39 billion) for the second phase of expansion. The bidding document is expected to be issues today. Huawei Technologies and Nokia Siemens Networks will be bidding for the contract as well.

   

 China Mobile lowers the 3G tariffs (China)

China Mobile slashes tariffs of the mobile communication for it’s 3G service trial. This new package will be introduced in three cities. In the new package, the rates will nearly be reduced to half, within a year.
The operator chooses Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Tianjin as the first three of cities to offer the new packages. The new packages will also be available in seven other cities, including Beijing and Shanghai, that have access to TD-SCDMA, or 3G, networks.
Under this package, for corporate users, China Mobile offers users 500 minutes of calls costing 30 yuan (US$4.41), compared with 88 yuan for 600 minutes previously.
The TD-SCDMA call rate is 0.22 yuan for the first three minutes and 0.11 yuan for the following minute.
For campus users, China Mobile is offering a 25-yuan package including 150 short messages, 100 megabytes of data traffic and free incoming call display.

   

 Dell and Microsoft team up with Datang Mobile for 3G standards (China)

Microsoft and computer manufacturer, Dell have teamed up with China’s Datang Mobile together will develop a range of products based on the Chinese 3G standard, TD-SCDMA. The core aspect of the cooperation relates to studying the compatibility of the Windows operating system with a 3G data card and Dell computers.
