 Mobile Subscribers base will reach a mark of 55.3 million in 2010 (Spain)

One of the largest markets in Europe, Spain supporting the population of more than 44 million. Cut throat competition among the major operators has helped coercing down the cost of services. First MVNOs were instigated which promise too intensify competition further. A great change is also seen with the launch of services from Xfera.

Notable highlights of Spain Mobile Forecast include:

  • The wireless market in Spain will be expanding over the next several years. The total subscriber base will increase from 50.2 million in 2007 to our forecasted 55.3 million in 2010. The wireless penetration level will rise from 111.8% in 2007 to 116.9% in 2010 (virtually unchanged from out previous forecast).
  • A relative stability in market shares will be seen for the major operators. It is  projected that the  market shares of 41.4%, 34.3%, 15.4%, and 9.3% respectively for Telefonica, Vodafone, Orange, and Xfera.

 Colombia adds half million new mobile users in Q2

Colombia gained another 504,653 new mobile users in the second quarter for a total 28.548 million at the end of June, according to figures from the superintendent for commerce and industry. Telefonica Moviles, which operates under the brand Movistar, added 66,641 new clients in Q2 for a total 7.612 million at the end of June. Colombia Movil, the owner of the brand Tigo, conquered 159,919 users in Q2, for a total base of 2.404 million. Comcel gained 278,093 new users, taking its base to 18.533 million.

   

 Movistar Argentina expands mobile coverage in Chubut

Telegeography writes…BNamericas, quoting newswire Telcommunity reports that Argentine cellco Movistar, a subsidiary of the Spanish Telefónica Móviles, has announced it will expand its mobile coverage to the towns of Epuyén and El Hoyo, tourist destinations in the southern province of Chubut, by mid-February. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database, Movistar ended 3Q 2006 as the most subscribed Argentine network, with a shade under ten million customers.

 

 

 Batelco roaming deal in Spain

AmeInfo writes…Batelco has signed an agreement for GPRS roaming with Spain’s Telefonica Moviles Espana. The deal allows Batelco’s post-paid mobile subscribers with GPRS/MMS enabled handsets to use those functions while in Spain. Batelco has international roaming agreements with 309 companies.

   


 

 Telefónica selects Opera Mini and Opera Mobile

Huliq writes…Opera Software today announced that Telefónica Móviles de España has selected Opera Mini and Opera Mobile to power the full Internet for its new Web service “Navega”. With Opera, Telefónica’s Navega subscribers can access the full Internet from their mobile phones.

The Navega-branded Opera Mini and Opera Mobile Web browsers will launch on Nokia N70, Sony Ericsson K610i, Sony Ericsson Z610i and Sony Ericsson K800, with several more to come.

Opera Mini provides Telefónica’s Navega subscribers with all their favorite Web sites while on the go. This means that more customers will now have access to the data they want, such as local Spanish search, community sites, news, Web mail or even movie schedules, right out of their pockets.
