Investments in the Chinese telecoms sector reached CNY 73.06 billion (USD 9.6 billion) in the first five months of this year, up 32.7 percent year-on-year. The number of mobile subscribers rose by 33.514 million in the first five months to 495 million, while fixed-line users increased by 4.394 million to 372 million. Broadband users increased by 6.342 million in in the five months to May to reach 58.241 million. Investments were led by China Mobile, which spent USD 3.5 billion on its trial TD-SCDMA networks.
